Logging On, Controlling, and Logging Off
- Prior to logging on to an active ATC position, log on to the network as an observer (OBS) and ask the highest level controller online (CTR, APP, DEP, TWR, GND, DEL in that order) where he/she would like help.
- When logging into a new position, contact the controller directly above and below your position as well as any adjacent radar controllers to begin the coordination process and to be sure they know you are there.
- When logging on to relieve a controller, follow the Position Relief Procedures
- When logging on to an ATC position, it is recommended that the individual control for a minimum of one (1) hour. White unforeseen real world conditions may arise, respect the other ZDC and neighboring controllers and commit to the minimum recommended time.
- When logging off, advise the positions directly above and below you and any other positions you are coordinating with that you will be leaving. Give ample notice before leaving, 10-15 minutes is recommended. Also, use the .break function so observers know you leaving because they may want to relieve you. If somebody will be relieving you, follow the Position Relief Procedures and be sure to use the .nobreak function.
